Madison Wins Big at States

Victory for Varsity Madison HS Warhawk Crew: Men’s 1st 8 Wins Gold; Women’s 1st 4 wins Bronze and Women’s 2nd 4 wins Silver.

The NCASRA VA State Championship May 10th was a historic day for the 7 year old Madison team with 3 Warhawk Boats on the Winner’s Dock. The Men’s Light Weight 8 rowers kept the lead for the entire 1,500 meters course on the Occoquan, beating Woodson by almost 6 seconds. They earned gold medals plus the oldest, still circulating scholastic rowing trophy: The Brother’s Trophy. Sophomore rower Tom Houston shares winning this trophy with his Dad Rusty, who rowed for the Wash-Lee team, winning in 1979. The LWT 8 boat: Jun Cho, Tom Houston; Matt Pepper; Mark Graziano; Sahand Dilmaghani; Cox: Samantha Lee; Alex Lejeune; Chris Church; Coach Gary Goddard; Jeff Camisso

The Women’s Varsity 1st 4 rowers: Kasey Lewis, Cox Morgan Swersey, Stroke Elena Fernandez, Emilia Topp and Sarah Sutton. Women’s Varsity Second 4 rowers: Kate Colwell, Rachel Howard, Amanda Ryder, Elizabeth Boott and Kat Harper
The Men’s Varsity 1st 4 finished 4th in the Petite Finals.
